More information

  • Library Media Connection : Library Media Connection Reviews 2008 April/May
Whether explaining the main points of heat, circuits, gases, or sound, the information presented is descriptive, brightly illustrated, and able to involve students through the quiz questions at the end of each section. Subheadings make browsing for information very easy. Many of the questions concerned a diagram where students could examine and analyze the data, and make their decisions based on their analysis. All the volumes have three to five essential bits of information that students should have gleaned from their readings of each section. This is information for curious students, and a basic introduction for others needing a review. In the discussion of sound, I was surprised to see that a library was listed on a decibel chart 10 decibels below a whisper, and 10 above a pin drop. The stereotype lives on. This series is for middle elementary students to answer their "why" questions, and to show the basic facts of the everyday science that affects all of our lives. Glossary. Index. Recommended.
